Parent teacher meet

Last Thursday, was the girl's parent teacher meet at their kindergarten. Since it was the first meeting, it was more to discuss the child's adjustment to the new level and what to discuss if the expectations of parents are met.

I was very confident of Harvynna's report as she usually gets loads of praises, but I was quite interested to see what the teachers would say about Rowena.

So for Harvynna - it was all good. The same report about her excelling academically and being the top of her class. She now shares the position with another boy who joined the school this year. She was quite upset to hear that!! But, the teacher mentioned that she is quite reserved. She has her own group of friends and does not really mix with the rest. She focuses on her work most of the time.

Harvynna has grown to be exactly like ME! She is really my mini. The teacher would like her to be more vocal. Dont know if that is a good thing but I supposed in today's world, it is. The funny thing was Harvynna's teacher immediately made the comparison to Rowena, saying she is very friendly and vocal and is friends with everyone and went on and on about Rowena's colourfulness!! I was like' eh, i thought we were discussing Harvynna here'!

Apparently, Rowena has made a name for herself at school - not academically but by just being herself. She is friends with the kids in all the other classes and loves entertaining the teachers. Her class teacher was actually describing incidents of Rowena and other teachers as the other teachers had told her about them!! Funny ones!

Work wise, she just does it for the sake of doing it, then she does other things like clean the tables after meal time, send the register to the office. Well, Rowena did say that she wants to be a 'kakak' when she grows up.

The teacher did say that she is very brave and participates in all the activities e.g. singing, dancing, speaking. Although, her motor skills are good, she still needs a lot of practice writing. Again, Rowena's class teacher said that Rowena is the total opposite of Harvynna, who has always put her academic work as priority. For Rowena, its all about having fun.

Next Malaysian Idol?

Here's a video of Rowena in action. She wanted me to take a video of her and offered to sing for me. It's free entertainment. How can I complain?

BTW- she has removed her cast and is back to being Rowena.

Things they say...

It's the school holidays now and the girls are not here. They have gone on their holiday while I have mine here!!! The house and the daily car rides to work are so quiet. But I am kind of enjoying the quiet time. I think they too, need a break from me - have been so stressed out and screaming at them a lot!! Can't wait for them to be back and hear they things they say.

Rowena's famous lines:

Mummy's office is in Koto Sarasara (2 guesses where that is)

I pinch you, i bite you, i push you (agressive girl)

Dont give Awa (Harvynna) cake ok, she fatty girl

Surrprise, say please (when she wants something)

Tomorrow you buy for me this ok, dont give Awa

Haha, mummy washing your soap off (when I bathe Harvynna)

I dont want this one, very ugly (when she does not get what she wants)

Harvynna's famous lines:

Please, please dont bring Rowena!

I going to ask Aunty Kuldeep to bring me to my Beaconhouse (when I tell her I am going to change her school next year)

Mummy, just say this, just bluff her ok. (when she does not want Rowena to find out something)

I accidently ate the last cake (when she brought 3 cakes home, one for me, 2 for her, and daddy asked her why she did not bring for him)

Can you just feel the sisterly love!!

I bought them one of those sets where you can bathe the baby from Toy's R Us and they love it. They can play with it for hours. They are into dolls right now. Anyone knows where I can get a walking doll?

Life Changes

I was blog hopping earlier and came across a tragedy that struck this family in Australia, where their 3 1/2 year old daughter passed away in a freak accident. While reading the mum's story, I just had this overwhelming feeling that how life can change in a blink of an eye and we have to stop taking things for granted. Her daughter, Ava was just turning 4 (Harvynna's age) and I immediately thought of my 2 girls.

Harvynna is going through this really whiney stage, where she whines for just about anything. She can suddenly burst into tears for no reason and many times, she keeps saying that I dont love her. I think all the attention on Rowena (given by everyone) is really getting to her. Sometimes, she complains that she is not pretty. I think that is because most strangers keep saying how cute Rowena is and she feels it. I told her that people normally say babies are cute but she is so beautiful.

But she feels flattered because Rowena calls her a princess. If you ask Rowena, what is Harvynna, she will say 'Pincess' and when you ask her what is Rowena' she will reply 'duwa' (referring to dwarf). Thanks to Snow White and the 7 dwarfs.

Rowena is really catching up on her speech and can put many words together now. This is good as they can both now communicate to each other and somehow, Harvynna understands, some of the mispronounced words Rowena uses, which we dont! Their conversations in the car can be quite funny sometimes. They both have their own sense of humour.

The other day, we were rushing home to get ready to attend my aunt's birthday dinner. And I told Harvynna jokingly, why dont you stay at home instead. This was her reply:

I will stay home if Rowena stays as well.

And I said OK.

Then she adds, we will use our shoes in the house, and when you come home, the house will be dirty. Then very good for you!........ and they both started laughing.

Some of the cute things Rowena says are:

Eeeeya, daddy poo poo everywhere!

Mummy read! Rowie no no

She refers to Bangsar Village as 'bubble, pop pop pop' because thats where she attends Gymboree!

Poor Rowena

Poor Rowena has really been Harvynna’s punching bag lately. Every now and then, Harvynna would slap her, kick her, bite her, hit her head, poke her face and grab her things. She seems to let our her frustrations on Rowena. At the same time, she can be such a loving sister at times. When she is tired, bored or does not get what she wants, then poor Rowena is the victim. She complains that’ Rowena is destroying all her things and crumpling her books’. Well err, Rowena does crumple her books.

Rowena’s seperation anxiety is getting worse now. She will crawl all the way while crying to me and reach out her arms for me to carry her. How can I resist that? Harvynna will scream ‘ the cockroach is coming’ when she does that.

Looking at their 2 characteristics, I think Rowena will be more of a follower but then again, you will never know.
