Mirror Mirror on the Wall

Old wifes tales say that if you want to have a beautiful baby, you should only look at beautiful things when you are pregnant. In fact, the more you look at a certain person, your baby might end up looking like that. So, I was not allowed to watch all those weird movies and did not even see 'Lord of the Rings' so little Harvynna did not look like a Hobbit!

I had this picture on my desktop the whole time while i was pregnant. Any resemblance?

I also had pictures of my nephew and niece on my table and many have commented that Harvynna looks like my niece. This photo was taken recently. Don't have a scanned picture of the kids when they were younger. Will upload if I get the chance.

So far this pregnancy, I have 100's and thousands of pictures of Harvynna all over my work station!

The Wedding

This 17 Dec is my cousin's wedding. Its exciting as it will be the first wedding in the family after mine (coming to 6 years now). Plus, it will be the first wedding for Harvynna to attend. Well, she attended a wedding of a close friend in September at the Sikh temple, but we did not bring her along to the reception. Too much action for a 11/2 year old to take! Plus it was Mummy and daddy's day out. So, it will be her first wedding reception.

Ajit, Aida, Usha, Rina, Geeta
Ammetta and Brendan

Have so many outfits lined up for Harvynna to wear to the wedding. A couple of lenghas and some dresses. Still deciding which one to put for her. They are all so cute and got matching bangles for her as well. Poor mummy does not have anything to wear as all my evening wear do not fit anymore. Have a maternity evening dress, but thats in black and will will not look so glamourous amidst all the lovely ladies in multi coloured kebayas, baju kurungs and sarees. Maybe, will use a bright coloured shawl to bring out the dress. Just asked my colleagues if its appropriate to use black for a Malay wedding and they gave me a funny look! Will go exploring next Friday as I took half day leave to run some errands.

Kidsportz Bangsar

Decided to take Harvynna to Kidsportz on Friday Evening since they poor girl needed a place to run around. Besides, felt guilty as have been scolding her a lot lately. Her terrible 2s are setting in and sometimes feel like I am losing it.

Anyway, took her to Kidsportz. Costs Rm9.99 for kids below 2. I was a little dissapointed initially, as there was not much things for children below 3. In fact, for all children as compared to Megakidz or Kidsportz 1 Utama. Just that this place is so much more convenient as parking is easier and less people. The main items was the bouncy castle, a small little slide (the Little Tikes one) as well as a pool of balls. Luckily it managed to occupy her time for 1 hour plus! She was so exhausted and zzzzzz all the way back in the car

A day at the photo studio

We finally decided to take a proper Family picture professionally. This would also be a good opportunity to take some good shots of Harvynna. After searching, we found this place called Saycheese (www.saycheese.com.my) at Damansara. They are quite smart in the sense that they use a digital camera and keep snapping as many pictures as they can. In the end, they publish all the pictures on the PC and ask you to choose. Its very difficult to choose as all the photos came out nice. In the end, we spent RM500 plus on the pics as each pic cost RM10 for a 4R size and the enlarged family photo was RM50 each. As there are no negatives, we have to order from them even for an extra piece. They only give you thumbnails of the pictures you selected, so you have to go back to them for an extra copy.

Looking at the way the business is run, its a home based business, a house wife married to an expatriate. NO doubt she is good at taking the pics and is really good with the kids. She has all the props and some costumes. Unfortunately, the costumes were either too small or too big for Harvynna, so she ended up wearing most of her own.

The pictures were taken in August. (few months back)

On to my second year........

14 Months

To tell or not to tell.....?

At the next pre-natal checkup on Christmas eve, we should be able to tell the baby's sex. At first, I wanted it to be a surprise for us as it can be quite exciting not knowing. During our parents times, the sex of the baby was only revealed at the time of birth due to the level of technology at that time. But nowadays, there are more ways than one to test.

For the first pregnancy, we wanted to know the sex, as we were so excited and couldnt wait to stock up on baby items. The thing is DH insists on knowing the sex this time around as well, so if he knows, i have to know as well. Then I wonder, should we tell others as well? Even from now, people keep asking if we know the sex and worse is, they ask if we would prefer a girl or a boy. Some even go as far as saying, that a boy would be better, then we would have a pair or the famous, 'girl also ok what'. How irritating can people be? So what would those people that said 'a boy would be better' say if it turned out to be a girl. We know what they are really thinking.

First of all, we should feel blessed to have a baby. There are so many couples out there who are trying so hard to have a child. And here we are, fortunate enough, so why should we worry about the sex - that should be the least of everyones worries. The main thing is for the child to be healthy. A child is a gift - no matter if it is a boy or girl.

I know, we are going to be bombarded with the same questions right till we deliver. So what should we say?

Err, its a surprise
Dont know
Why you want to know? What is it to you? (hehe, thats quite rude)
Take a guess?
Or we are not telling others...........?

My own creation

People say that when a child is between 15 months - 3 years is really their cute stage. I couldnt but agree more. This is the time when they learn to talk and do all kinds of funny things that can really crack you up. Harvynna is kind of lucky as there are other kids at the babysitters place of which 2 of the girls are already almost 5 years old. Her social skills are quite good and can speak quite well probably by listening to them and trying to copy what they say.

There are, of course her own words, dont know if the actual words are hard to say or thats how she thinks they are supposed to be!

Among these words:

Pickel (Pencil)
Peeper (paper)
Gung Gung (Cat)
Boo (blue) .... for now everything is either blue or red in colour!
aaviaa (harvynna - her name)
avee (harvey - daddys name)
Mina (rina - mummys name)

Ready... Steady....Grow!!! Part 2

Dont' know why but I could not fit all 12 months into one entry. This blogging doesnt not seem to like me. Had to insert certain photos a few times before it worked out.
Had to publish the last 2 months on its own. So here it comes..........

And many, many more words. – she just picks up more words each day.

Harvynna is a smart little girl and is trying to put 2-3 words together like mummy sit, mummy come walk, cat sleeping, big balloon, more susu. The way she calls out ‘Mummy’ and Daddy in her most loving tone just melts our hearts. Of course she also calls out Rina and Harvey when she’s in the mood!

She understands very well and can take instructions to do except when she is in the NO mood. Harvynna loves to imitate what we say and loves to talk on the phone. She can clean the table and eats by herself with a spoon. Her favourite time is bathtime where she splashes happily in the tub. When lazy mummy does not want to give her her bath, she will take off her clothes and stand infront of the bathroom!!

She has a fascination for shoes and loves putting on shoes and walking all over the place including mummy’s shoes. This has been her habit ever since she could walk at 10 months!!

Harvynna can count from 1-10 and can sing a few songs by hard like Twinkle Twinkle little star (with the hand actions), Baa Baa black sheep, I see you, Rain Rain go Away, Old Mc Donald. Now, she is fascinated with the songs from the Musikgarten CD.

She can name most parts of her body and will point if asked.
Harvynna loves cats and goes crazy with them by running after them, calling out for them and laughing with joy when she’s with the cat. Of course there’s the occasional ‘gung gung bite’, ‘Pain’!

She has an excellent memory can recite lines from books read to her months before.

And books, she is a book lover – she can read and read and wants to be read to all the time. She goes, Be book! Peaase! Even at wee hours of the morning. Hehe – she can be a book monster at times.

She loves being the center of attention and can perform to an audience to gain the attention. She is a social bird and loves going out. She loves going to Bangsar with Mummy and daddy.

She loves to dress up and after putting on a nice outfit and has her hair done up, she will run out of the room grinning away to show off her look.

Her favourite person is her Nana and when Nana is around, no one else matters including mummy and daddy.

We are slowly teaching her of the arrival of her new sibling. She taps mummy’s stomach and goes baby, baby slowly the taps turn into slaps and hits But will sayang mummys stomach, if we ask her to sayang baby. She refers to the baby as 'Naughty Baby' or 'Fat Baby'

I am sure she will love the baby!

The day Harvynna was born.......

Harvynna was born on April 12, 2004 at 1.39pm at the Damansara Specialist Hospital (room 216). It was an elective C-Section as we wanted her to be born before the Hindu New year on April 13, plus Dr Guna was not going to be around after that for a week and I did not want any other dr. This was a precious pregnancy and could not afford anything to go wrong as we had waited and planned for this precious miracle to happen.

I can still remember how I used to rush to the hospital to do a CTG because she did not move the whole day and I will panic and imagine the worse. Went to go the CTG almost every week!!! Luckily the bill was paid for by DH company. (not anymore, though. Sigh!) And at 7 months, the dr mentioned that I had low amniotic fluid and it did not seem to get better at every check-up. Constant worry and paranoia was my companion. In the end, most of my friends that were due around the same time as me had delivered their precious babies, so I was only too happy to do the C-section. All I wanted was to see my precious Harvynna and hold her in my arms.

So on 12 April 2004, I checked in to the hospital at 8.00am as my operation was scheduled for 12.00noon. Upon checking in, we were informed that there were no more single rooms available. (which I hear seems to be the norm at DSH - could be their devious ploy to get customers to book the suite). Which is exactly what we did! We went to a double room first, but felt funny as the other patient had already checked in and her things were all over the place. Plus, double room means, DH cannot room in. Plus, worried of the after effects of the operation, so we went to the Permata suite, which was really worth it. The rooms was great and had a nice living room which came in handy after the operation. The visitors were ushered to the living room as Mummy wanted to recuperate quietly after the operation. Meals were served in nice silverware and DH got a free meal as well. There was full ASTRO in the room and toilet was nice.

Anyway, at 1.00 plus was wheeled into the OT area....at 1.30 the operation started and at 1.39 pm, wuaaaaaghh! - the little princess was out! She gave the loudest cry and it was hard to believe, Princess Harvynna was finally here!

After that, was all the boring stuff like stitching the cut and cleaning up. DH was sent out of the OT and Harvynna was taken to the nursery for her bath and immunisations etc. DH took a video of her first bath while mummy was left in the recovery area. Felt like forever!

Harvynna was 3.2kg and 50cm long, healthy and absolutely beautiful!

Time to Blog

Finally, I decided to start an official blog for public display! I have one already, but that's more personal and For my Eyes only as its my place to vent, complain and bitch. Haha.
Anyway, this one is for my babies - Harvynna and the one coming soon. I realised that Harvynna is now 19 months and I dont have much records of her developments as she has been developing at tremendous speed now and sometimes i feel like I cant catch up. Before I realise it, Harvynna will turn 2 and no 2 will be around as well. Yup! No 2's due date is on the same day as Harvynna's due date. Just that Harvynna was taken out a week earlier on April 12 2004. (some belief that the baby should be born before the Hindu New Year)

I will insert some old stories if I can find where I put them and fill the blog up with pictures. Sigh! I used to be so good at compiling her pics, and stories - filled up her memory book and even came up with a scrapbook in time for her 1st bday party.(Actually, my mom did that for her little princess!) Took lots and lots of pix with the digital camera and normal camera, had tons of photos everywhere. Now, not so much. Better get back into the swing of things before Baby No 2 is out.

Happy 1st Birthday!

Posted this on my personal blog and decided to share it here since it was Harvynna's first birthday party.

The party was held on the 16th of April as it was a Saturday. On her actual bday, we just bought a small cake from Strudels and packed some dinner from American Chillis. It was just the 3 of us - a simple celebration.

The party was on sat 16 april at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club. It was a fun party as the party was fun filled with activities for the kids. The kids had their own section downstairs while the adults were upstairs.

We had about 65 adults and 25 kids - basically everyone we invited turned up. Tried to limit to close friends and family. Got so hung up at the party that i forgot to take the mascot photos. Sigh! - one boo boo on my part. Other than that, it was great - Aladdin aka Mike was great. Pity, Harvynna was a little moody and did not allow anyone to carry her!

The video turned out well. When she views the video now, she looks like she is enjoying the party and dances to the songs and claps her hands. What a far cry from the actual day.

The cake was simply delivious and looked good. Kudos to Cecilia. It was a 3D teddy bear cake in pink. Another boo boo on my part, did not take a close up of the cake. Luckily, its in the video.

Spent a bomb on the gifts as well esp the teddy bears for the babies. Well, she only turns one once - so lets splurge.

Thanks to everyone that gave such wonderful presents. Harvynna really enjoys playing with them and not forgetting the cash that has gone into her bank account.

Childrens Birthday parties can be so much fun but stressful too esp when the birthday kid is not feeling up to it. I started planning for the party since she was 8 months old and couldnt help but get carried away sometimes. Luckily the party was held at an outside venue so there was no issue of cleaning up after the party. Still needed a week to recover after the party!

Harvynna..... Mummy and daddy love you very much and decided to give you a party you will never forget...Till the next year!
